Golden Ears Park
Golden Ears Provincial Park is only 15 km from Maple Ridge. The park extends 55 km northward through mountain
wilderness to the southern boundary of Garibaldi Provincial Park. Alouette Lake and its forested surroundings were traditional hunting and fishing grounds for the Douglas-Lilloet and Katzie Coast Salish Indians.Drive down Dewdney Trunk Rd in Maple Ridge, B.C. to 232 Street, go north to Fern Cres. and East 15 km to Golden Ears Park.







Mike Lake
Mike Lake was the home of 600 or more men who logged this area in the late 1920's. A trail leads around the lake
(about 45 minutes round-trip ) and provides good views of open water and marsh areas. Lake area is home to small beaver and many birds.
Alouette and Gold Creek Campgrounds
Two campgrounds with 408 sites and located near Alouette Lake. Water, toilets, showers, and firewood are available.
Two group campgrounds are available for non-profit and reservations are required.
Mike Lake Trail
Mike Lake main horse corral. Horse and hiking trail, 4.2 kilometers. Hiking time 2 hours.
Incline Trail
Mike Lake to fire access road. Horse and hiking trail. Hiking time 1 hour, 1.2 kilometers. This steep trail follows the incline that was once used by loggers as a route to skyline huge logs down to Mike Lake from the railroad above. Near the trailhead, just after crossing Mike Creek, is an old steam donkey shed.
Alouette Mountain Hiking Trail
Top of the northern Shortcut trail via Lake Beautiful to Alouette Mountain. Hiking time 5 hours, 4.2 kilometers. The panoramic view from Alouette Mountain is spectacular. For many hikers, the highlight of the trail is the virgin stands of mountain hemlock and yellow cedar near Lake beautiful. Lake beautiful is a lake covered lily pads in summer. The return trip to Alouette Mountain from top of the incline trail can take up to 9 to 10 hours. Be sure to carry water in dry weather and expect snow well into June. This trail is a strenuous hike requiring experience and proper equipment.
Alouette Mountain Fire Access Trail
Mike Lake hitching rack to "dead end" northeast of Lake Beautiful, a total of 11 kilometers. The trail follows the fire access road through sub alpine forest and eventually through a blowdown area caused by Typhoon Freda in 1962.
Alouette Valley Trail
Mike Lake Trail to Menzies Trail junction. Horse and hiking trail. Hiking time 3.5 hours, 7 kilometers.
Menzies Trail
Park headquarters to Gold Creek Parking lot. Horse, bicycling and hiking trail. Hiking time 4.5 hours, 9 kilometers.
Lookout and Loop Trails
Parkway via Lookout Trail to Look-out and return to Parkway via Loop trail. Hiking time 1 hour, 2.5 kilometers. Park at Spirea nature trail parking lot.
Viewpoint Trail
West Canyon Parking Lot to Lakepoint. Hiking time 3/4 hour, 1.5 kilometers. West Canyon Parking Lot to Viking Creek Viewpoint. Hiking time 1.5 hours, 3 kilometers. Good views. In wetter seasons a picturesque waterfall tumbles down a cliff just beyond Lake viewpoint.
West Canyon Trail
West Canyon Parking Lot to Alder Flats. Hiking trail only. Hike time 2.5 hours, 3 kilometers. Trail follows an old logging grade for 3.2 kilometers then swings uphill. At this point a short trail drops to lower falls.
Golden Ears Trail
West Canyon Parking Lot to summit of north Ear. Hiking trail only. Hiking time 7 hours, 12 kilometers. Follow the West Canyon Trail from the parking lot to Alder flats. Beyond Alder Flats the trail switchbacks upwards on an old logging road and then heads steeply uphill to Panorama ridge. Most of the elevation gain is made in this stretch. Listen for the nasal squeak of the pikas in the rock slides. Impressive view of Pitt Lake to west and mountains to the east and north are possible from Panorama Ridge. The ascent of the north Ear is made from the left (east) side across a permanent snowfield. Extreme caution is advised and proper equipment is recommended. Drinking water may be scarce in dry weather between alder Flats and snowfield. The round trip to Golden Ears is an overnight. Expedition for all but the fittest hikers. Overnight camping areas are located at alder flats and on Panorama Ridge around the mountain shelter which, itself can accommodate up to eight people. Expect snow on Panorama ridge into July. This trail is long and strenuous and should only be attempted by experienced well-equipped backcountry travelers.
Lower Falls Trail
LOWERFALLS TRAIL: Gold Creek Parking Lot to Lower Falls. Hiking trail only. Hiking time 1 hour , 2.7 kilometers. A very popular, easy walk along Gold Creek to the 10 meter high Lower Falls. A beach area halfway to the falls is a good spot for a picnic or sunbathe.
Gold Creek trail
: Gold Creek parking lot to Viewpoint Beach. Horse, biking, and hiking trail. Hiking time 1.75 hours, 4 kilometer. The trail leads to spectacular scenery of Viewpoint Beach, where Golden ears and Edge Park Peak can be viewed to the west. The trail narrows and continues for another 11 kilometers parallel to Gold Creek.
